Field & Stream, a brand that has been delivering hunting and fishing tips since the mid-1800s, is getting into the hospitality business. And where do they choose to launch their first-ever lodge? Right here in Montana.

Yeah, that’s right, Field & Stream Lodge Bozeman is opening its doors. According to an official description, the hotel has 179 rooms, including bunk rooms for those legendary group trips. Also, it will have an indoor pool, an outdoor hot tu,b and an “intimate” Great Room with a giant stone fireplace and a vintage canoe suspended from the ceiling.

The lodge itself is designed to be the ultimate escape party in the woods. Rustic but modern, part hunting lodge, part luxury hotel. And the best part? You can experience some classic Montana without even leaving the property. It will have an onsite restaurant and plenty to do for guests, whether they plan on fishing, hiking or just looking at the views.

Sounds nice, right? Well, maybe too nice.

Let’s face it, when a brand as iconic as Field & Stream opens in Bozeman, tourists are what’s coming. It won’t just be us schmoes checking in; tourists from afar will want a taste of Bozeman’s fishing and outdoor culture. And yes, they’ll be scoping out the same fishing holes that we’ve fished for years.

Now, before you panic about your secret fishing holes being overrun, let’s step back. The increase in visitors can also translate to more dollars for local stores, more resources for conservation efforts, and possibly even some upgrades to the public access facilities we use. And since Field & Stream has a commitment to the real outdoor experience, hopefully, their guests will respect the land and water as much as we do.

So is this new hotel going to flood Montana’s rivers with tourists? You bet. But does that mean our fishing grounds are doomed? Not necessarily. We Montanans are fortunate keepers of some of the best places but we always keep those spots to ourselves, and we’ll continue to do that.
