Imagine walking to your neighborhood park for a peaceful stroll, only to find a massive mule deer buck tangled in the swingset like a kid who didn’t follow the rules. That’s exactly what happened recently in Woodland Park, Colorado, leaving everyone, from residents to wildlife officers, staring at one awkward situation.

The impressive-looking mule deer got his antlers hopelessly entangled in playground equipment, and thrashed about in panic. It’s not every day a wildlife rescue looks more like a slapstick comedy than a natural disaster. Enter the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) team, who knew they had to act fast to save the deer, and possibly the swingset.

Armed with a taser and determination, CPW officials tased the deer for a solid few moments (perhaps longer than anyone expected), allowing them to cut it free.

See it for yourself:

Now free but likely frazzled, the buck bolted back into the wild, hopefully steering clear of human-made jungle gyms forever.

While it’s easy to chuckle at the situation, it’s a reminder of how wildlife increasingly clashes with urban spaces. Kudos to CPW for handling the scene, though the extended taser use had me uncomfortable for a few seconds. I mean c'mon guys, I'm surprised smoke wasn't coming out of his ears after they were done. You better make sure to get some fresh batteries for that taser.

Mule deer may not be known for their playground prowess, but this buck’s antics are now legendary. Here’s hoping the local deer population spreads the word: swingsets are off-limits.
