As the school year ends, it's hard to keep the attention of students in public school. So, when the City of Hamilton offered to let kids see some of its large road equipment, the Washington Elementary School teachers were excited - but not as much as the kids. The Public Works Department brought three large vehicles to the school playground on North 6th Street this past week.

The photo above shows a group of kids trying to figure out how many kids can fit in the bucket of a large front end loader. They were still determining the answer when I left. By the way, the bucket stayed stationary, on the ground. No free rides today! Personnel from the Public Works Department made sure the kids were safe as they climbed on the equipment, kicked the tires and "honked the horn."
