A woman's body was found on Sunday, February 16, behind a grocery store in Hamilton.

Police Chief Ryan Oster said the body of the unidentified woman was found just after noon.

"Officers responded to an area just behind Super One Foods in Hamilton," Oster said. "A man who had been walking in the area saw the body of a female lying near some bushes. Officers found the body of a 61 year-old female who had been residing in Hamilton, but who had recently been evicted from her apartment before she was reported missing."

Oster said the woman had been reported missing on February 11.

"She had been listed by the NCIC as a missing person, and officers had made some attempts to locate the woman, but were unsuccessful," Oster said. "It appears that she died as the result of exposure to the elements, as there was nothing at the scene to indicate any criminal activity, however, her body was transported to the State Crime Lab in Missoula for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death."

Oster said his office is withholding the name of the victim until some out-of-state relatives are notified.
