Ada County officials have released the name of a woman who was struck and killed after apparently stepping out in front of a car in southwestern Idaho.

Shortly before midnight Saturday, a driver called to report she hit a woman who had stepped out onto the road and was waving her arms. The driver said she did not see the woman in time to avoid hitting her. The woman died at the scene of the collision just east of Star.

The victim was not carrying any identification, but the Ada County coroner's office on Monday identified her as 41-year-old Deirdre Kay Shepherd of Boise. An autopsy found she died of blunt force trauma to the head.
