The wolf hunting season continues in Montana, with 156 total having been harvested so far — 104 by hunters and 52 by trappers.

Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks spokesman Ron Aasheim says the number of wolves trapped is a pleasant surprise, because the total last year was only 156.

Aasheim says the issue of wolves is also before the Montana legislature with House Bill 73. The bill would allow multiple licenses for wolf hunters, and would lower the non-resident fees from $350.00 to $50.00. The new law would no longer require hunters to wear orange after the close of the general rifle season and would also legalize the use of electronic calls.

The wolf hunting and trapping season continues through February 28th.
