GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) — The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for high mountain passes in Montana.

Forecasters say up to 3 inches of snow could fall Sunday on passes, and up to 8 inches could fall near ridge tops.

The weather service is warning campers, hikers and people in the backcountry to be prepared for wet, heavy snow and unseasonably cold temperatures.

Rain and snow is expected to spread over southwest and north central Montana and continue through Monday morning.
