A man convicted of arson is going to prison after his wife convinced a Flathead County judge he should receive a harsher penalty than called for in a plea agreement.

The Daily Inter Lake reports that District Judge David Ortley sentenced 40-year-old Daniel English on Thursday to five years in Montana State Prison and 10 years of probation.

A plea agreement had recommended five years with the state Department of Corrections instead of the state prison, followed by five years of probation.

English was convicted of arson after pouring gas in his trailer home and lighting it on fire in 2013.

His wife, Mindy English, says her husband shows no remorse. She says she didn't think it was fair for him to not receive prison time after burning down a home.
