Giving credence to reports that singer Whitney Houston may have drowned in her bathtub, TMZ reports that the singer was found underwater when her body was discovered yesterday (Feb. 11). Reports also say the singer was taking Xanax before her death.

According to TMZ, Houston was prescribed Xanax, which is typically used to treat anxiety and depression. The night before her death, Houston was said to be drinking heavily — something that does not mix well with the medication she was on. Xanax, when mixed with alcohol, becomes a dangerous sedative, which could have caused Houston to fall asleep in the bathtub.

In a chilling recollection, sources informed TMZ that Houston’s stylist, hairstylist and two bodyguards were in Houston’s hotel room at the time of her death. When they realized she’d be in the bathroom for over an hour and needed to get ready, they knocked on the door. When Houston didn’t answer, her female hairstylist went into the bathroom to check on her.

Houston’s face was underwater, while her legs were up, as if she slid down the back of the bathtub. When the hairdresser screamed, Houston’s bodyguard rushed to the scene and pulled her body of the tub. Sources say the body was already very cold when her bodyguard attempted CPR to resuscitate the star. Her bodyguard called hotel security, who in turn got paramedics to the scene shortly. Unfortunately, it was already too late: Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55PM PT.

Medical examiners have finished performing the autopsy on Whitney Houston, but couldn’t determine the cause of death. According to TMZ, results are inconclusive until a toxicology report is completed, which usually takes four to six weeks.

Houston’s untimely death is also compounded by her daughter Bobbi Kristina being hospitalized twice at Cedars-Sinai for mixing prescription sedatives with alcoholic drinks. “She tried to ease the pain of losing her mother by having a few alcoholic drinks,” a source told Radar Online. “She was distraught, on the verge of a complete breakdown. Not knowing what to do, members of her mother’s entourage tried to calm her down with a sedative. The two were an unfortunate mix and she ended up passing out.”

Kristina’s father, Bobby Brown, has left his tour with New Edition so he can be with his daughter and family at this difficult time.

UPDATE: A “plethora of sedatives” were found in her hotel room.

UPDATE: Reports say that water was found in Houston’s lungs.
