At about 8:50 Tuesday morning, Missoula Police received a call that a vandalism was in progress in the 1400 block of West Broadway. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh says a witness reported seeing two adult males spray painting swastikas on a building.

“The officers responded, spoke with the witness, and quickly located two males who were leaving the area,” Welsh said. “Through their investigation and evidence gathering, they developed probable cause and charged the two males with misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief. They are identified as 20-year-old Joshua Dyslin and 37-year-old Justus Miller.”

Welsh says red spray paint was used on a white background.

“The graffiti said ‘white power’, had swastikas adjacent to it, and some other symbols that are initially unrecognizable,” Welsh said. “The two men, as I said, were cited and released. They are from the Missoula area, but are currently listed as transient or homeless.”

Some anti-Semitic flyers were recently discovered at the University of Montana campus. Welsh says MPD is currently working with the UM Police Department to determine if there are similarities and if it is possible that the same people may have been involved in both efforts. The Missoula Police Department shared the image on their Facebook page.
