With turnout at about 18 percent, it appears that most Missoulians weren't that concerned about the results of the Tuesday, May 5, election.

According to Missoula County Elections Administrator Rebecca Connors, her office received many calls wondering why there weren't more candidates or issues on the ballot.

"We received a little bit over 11,000 ballots back," Connors said. "Past school elections have been run in conjunction with other special district elections or they've had, kind-of hot topic ballot issues: we either bonds or levies. A lot of people just saw trustee races on this election, I think they were hoping to see more on the ballot."

The school election in 2014 brought out nearly double the percentage of voters, but there may be good reason for that.

"Last year, we had 40 percent turnout, but that was also run with the Missoula Rural Fire District levy, and School District One ran levies," Connors pointed out. "Also a couple other smaller districts had some ballot issues in addition to their trustee races."

The 2015 school election doesn't have the lowest turnout in recent Missoula history, in the 2009 school election total voter turnout was just a bit over 16 percent.
