The University of Montana has told a group called the Southside Lions Club that its volunteer ticket takers at Washington-Grizzly Stadium are being replaced by paid university staff.

The school says increasing crowd sizes require a staff trained in crowd management that also knows how to respond in an emergency. The school is also moving toward an electronic ticketing system.

And the school says it's had difficulty finding volunteers to clean the stadium after games.

School spokesman Chuck Maes says that the workers will be trained in multiple tasks so they can do more jobs wherever they are needed.

John Stenger of the Southside Lions Club says members are disappointed about the change.

Members have been taking tickets for football games for more than 30 years.
