The University of Montana will host a major educational conference on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 26-27, highlighted by a keynote address from U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez.

Associate Provost For Dynamic Learning, Nathan Lindsay, says the conference will feature several major keynote speakers.

"The first keynote speaker is the United States Secretary of Labor, Thomas Perez," Lindsay said. "Also, from the American Association of Colleges and Universities, Debra Humphreys, along with Presidential Adviser for Global Initiatives with the American Council on Education, Patti McGill."

The conference, “Defining a 21st Century Education for a Vibrant Democracy,” will be held both days on the third floor of the University Center. It will focus on important and timely topics in higher education, including liberal education, global education, workforce development, academic innovation and educational delivery.

The last time Thomas Perez was in Missoula was in May of 2012, as the representative of the U.S. Department of Justice, Department of Civil Rights, when the City of Missoula, the University of Montana and the Missoula County Attorney's Office were confronted with charges that sexual assaults were not being properly investigated and prosecuted.

Members of the educational community are encouraged to attend the free conference, as well as members of the public.
