Unemployment rates are getting smaller across the country. Montana state unemployment rates have also been reduced by about 2 %. Unemployment on Montana’s 7 Indian Reservations nears an average of 20%. Salish Kootenai Tribal Council Member James Steele says education is helping economically on his reservation. Steele says tribes need more economic development to deal with this persistent problem.

Steele says most concerns are shared equally on and off the Reservation.
