During a recent Class A minor league baseball game between the Daytona Cubs and the Fort Myers Miracles, public address announcer Derek Dye decided to have some fun with the umpires.

Bad idea.

The 21-year-old University of Illinois student — who is doing a summer internship with the Chicago Cubs’ minor league team — queued up an instrumental organ version of ‘Three Blind Mice” when a close call went against the home team. As you will see in the video below, one ump was none too pleased with Dye’s musical selection.

Dye was promptly ejected by home plate umpire Mario Seneca, meaning the game was finished without music or any messages from the public address announcer at all. He will also have to pay a $25 fine, which is part of the Florida League’s policy on ejections.

Initially, Dye was worried that the Cubs would end his summer internship and send him back to Illinois because of his transgression. But, in fact, team officials have stood behind Dye in the aftermath of the ejection.

And why shouldn’t they? It was the team that put ‘Three Blind Mice’ on the playlist in the first place.
