Amanda Curtis, the Montana Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, was in Missoula today, September 16, speaking in the parking lot of the Senior Citizen’s Center about the issues of Medicaid and Social Security.

She also took the opportunity to stress her position on the 2nd Amendment.

"My husband and I have always been gun owners," Curtis said. "A couple of months ago his WWII veteran grandpa passed away and left us a Browning 12 Gauge light.  I'm more concerned about keeping our access to our public lands, because what good does our 2nd Amendment do us, if we have a congressman who is willing to take our public lands to the pawnshop so we have no place to shoot or hunt."

Curtis, who spoke on behalf of Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors against Illegal Guns campaign in 2013 now says she has nothing to do with Bloomberg.

"I have nothing to do with Bloomberg," Curtis said. "I am a strong defender of the 2nd Amendment rights to bear arms, and if anyone was coming to take your guns away from you, I would be on your doorstep defending you."

Curtis also talked about the current U.S. action against the terrorist group Islamic State.

"I want to make sure that we get a guarantee that we are going to have a very clear goal, a step-by-step plan to achieve that goal, that we are going to provide the proper tools and equipment to get that job done, and that we are going to have an exit strategy to get our brothers and sisters home as soon as possible, and by as soon as possible, I mean yesterday," Curtis said.

When asked if the U.S. needed a formal declaration of war before engaging with Islamic State, Curtis said “no” and followed up by saying "ISIS needs to be taken care of, and it's going to happen."

At the event, Curtis announced that her campaign had raised 350,000 dollars and that it needed to reach 750,000 dollars in order to run television ads across the state.
