The general manager of Ted Turner's western ranches confirms a bull bison from the Snowcrest Ranch in southwestern Montana tested positive for exposure to brucellosis last month and was destroyed.

Snowcrest tested nearly 1,700 animals for brucellosis. The bull was the only animal that tested positive for the disease that can cause cattle to abort their young.

Last month, state veterinarian Marty Zaluski announced that a bull animal on a Madison County ranch had tested positive for brucellosis, but under state law, could not say which ranch and what type of animal.

The ranch is under quarantine until the entire herd tests negative for brucellosis in three consecutive tests.

Miller says they believe the disease was transmitted by elk.
