Native American culture has made it difficult for some to leave home  and become educated. Dr. Joe McDonald recognized this and formed the Salish Kootenai Community College in Pablo. From the beginning the University of Montana has maintained a relationship with the Pablo campus. With education helping to broaden economic opportunity on the reservation, tribal councilman James Steele says all the tribes in Montana especially the Salish Kootenai have ties to the land the Missoula campus is built upon.

Steele shares the same frustration as many Montanans when our best and brightest have to move out of state to find quality employment.
