Sometime this past weekend, 21 year-old Nicolas Anthony Rivera of Missoula found himself on the railroad tracks directly across from the Rock Creek Lodge when a passing Montana Rail Link train struck and killed him. Public Information Officer for the Missoula County Sheriff's Department Jason Johnson says dental records were used to identify Rivera's body.

There was a music festival at the Lodge over the weekend, and Rivera may have been attending, although authorities are still waiting for witnesses to come forward to explain how and why Rivera was on the tracks when the train traveled through at about 50 miles per hour. Rail Link personnel reported to 9-1-1 Saturday evening that people in the area were playing chicken with the train by jumping on and off the tracks. Anyone with information on the fatal accident is asked to call the Missoula County Sheriff's Department at 258-4810.
