Hotels and campgrounds in Glacier National Park are flooded with calls from worried tourists canceling their reservations or asking whether the Montana landmark will stay open as a wildfire sweeps through a popular area.

Hotel owners say they are trying to talk callers out of changing their plans, and park officials are diverting visitors to other sites in the park.

The fire has burned at least 6 square miles on the eastern side of the 1,718-square-mile park. The area is one of the most popular in Glacier, and the closures there include a top attraction, Logan Pass.

Park spokeswoman Denise Germann said Friday that the closures present an opportunity for tourists to visit other places in the park and that officials are helping them reroute their trips.
