Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback declared a state of emergency in the wake of a giant tornado, which hit Wichita particularly hard late Saturday night. Miraculously there are no major injuries reported so far.

According to the National Weather Service, the “confirmed large and extremely dangerous tornado was located just east of Conway Springs and moving northeast at 35 mph.” It did leave behind about $282 million worth of damage, destroyed homes and thousands without power on Sunday after the storm.

The same storm reportedly damaged a hospital in Iowa, though authorities said there were no serious injuries as a result. Still, patients were evacuated via ambulance to surrounding communities to keep safe.

People were prepared for the storm, as they were warned in advance on Saturday to take precautions. Emergency crews were already hard at work taking care of downed trees and power lines.
