We’re not far off from the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. She struck an iceberg late on the night of April 14th, 1912 and sank two hours and forty minutes later.

A survivor of that tragedy, Guillaume Joseph De Messemaeker had land and lived in Montana. He had gone back to Belgium to find a wife and was returning to America with his new bride on the fateful cruise.  His story is quite interesting. Many of his Montana descendants live up in the Flathead area.

Rose Nelson Dehne, who lives in Polson is his Grandaughter,  Holly Northrup Pierce, who lives in Columbia Falls is his Great-Granddaughter,  Heather Wagner Epperly, who lives in Woods Bay outside Bigfork, is his daughter’s  Granddaughter.

Rose wrote; ” There is one surviving daughter of Guillaume ~ Eva Stohl. She lives in Glasgow MT. There are many grandchildren, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews that live in Montana and across the country. Also through the miracle of Facebook I have contacted and met many of his relatives who now live in France.”
