Early in the morning on Saturday, September 7, dispatchers received a distress call from a mother claiming that her 3-year-old daughter had shot herself with a pistol.

The incident occurred in the Grant Village Campground in the southern portion of Yellowstone National Park, where the Idaho family was on vacation.

Emergency response teams were unable to resuscitate the girl, who was declared deceased the same day.

The young girl was identified on Monday, September 9, as Ella Marie Tucker, of Pocatello, Idaho. A Yellowstone National Park press announcement indicates that park rangers are still investigating the incident.
