1880 — John Richmond of Worcester pitched the first-ever perfect game in professional baseball in Worcester, MA. (More info.)

1930 — Max Schmeling of Germany won the world heavyweight championship when Jack Sharkey of Boston was disqualified for throwing a low blow in the fourth round of the bout at Yankee Stadium. (More info.)

1954 — Milwaukee Braves pitcher Jim Wilson no-hit the Philadelphia Phillies, 2-0. (More info.)

1990 — Baltimore Orioles shortstop Cal Ripken moved past Everett Scott into second place on the all-time consecutive games played list behind Lou Gehrig. (More info.)

1991 — The Chicago Bulls beat the Los Angeles Lakers, 4 games to 1, to win the NBA championship. It was the first title for Michael Jordan, who won six as a player with the Bulls. (More info.)
