Senator Jon Tester wants federal officials to help in his fight against high unemployment among the nation’s veterans. Tester is pushing the VA to use ideas in his Hiring Heroes Act. Senator Tester introduced the legislation last week to fight veterans’ unemployment through job training and skills certification. In a Senate hearing, the Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs embraced Tester’s plan.

Tester called the high unemployment rate among veterans-quote-“atrocious” and “catastrophic.” Tester’s bipartisan Hiring Heroes Act would require the military to certify veterans’ employment skills. And it would improve job skills training and federal hiring practices to combat veterans’ joblessness.
