As summer deepens into July, fire danger for Western Montana has been elevated to 'Moderate" by city and county officials.

On May 15, the U.S. Forest Service added three more aircraft to its firefighting fleet from Missoula's Neptune Aviation.

Even though smoke from various fires burning in Western Montana, Idaho and Washington poured into the Missoula valley over the weekend, authorities with the Missoula County Health Department said conditions were not hazardous.

The West Mullan fire that has been burning near Superior since July 14 is now on the downhill side, after nearly a thousand personnel worked the fire and over $7 million dollars has been spent.
