Police Chief Wants Both Sides Of The Story

I spoke with Missoula Chief of Police Mark Muir Thursday afternoon about the arrest of two University of Montana football players early Sunday morning. Chief Muir told me he is waiting for witnesses to step forward and share any video or audio evidence that may shed light on the case, but that no one has yet done so. He also spoke about comments made by the players’ defense attorney, and a comment by the Missoulian that he says is inaccurate. That interview is attached.

Players Plead Not Guilty;Attorney Says Police Overreacted [AUDIO]

University of Montana football players Gerald Kemp and Trumaine Johnson appeared in Missoula Municipal Court this morning and pleaded not guilty to all charges stemming from an altercation with Missoula Police early Sunday morning at a residence on North Russell street. The men, both 21, were tased by officers after Kemp allegedly shoved a police officer, and Johnson stepped in to prevent the officer from taking his teammmate into custody. Two UM Football Players Tased And Arrested

Two University of Montana football players, quarterback Gerald Kemp, and cornerback Trumaine Johnson were arrested early Sunday morning at a residence on North Russell after a physical altercation with Missoula police. According to the Missoula county jail roster, Kemp and Johnson were both charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest, obstructing a police officer, disorderly conduct, and failure to appear, while Kemp was also charged with misdemeanor assault for allegedly striking a police officer.  Police reports indicate that both players had to be tased in order to be subdued. Missoula Police Sergeant Jake Rosling says alcohol was also a factor in the incident. My interview with Sergeant Rosling is attached.
