Police in Helena say a four-hour standoff that started when a man fired a handgun in the direction of his girlfriend ended about 7:35 a.m. Sunday when a SWAT entered the residence using a key and set off a flash-bang device.

Helena Police Chief Troy McGee says the man was located in the bedroom and no one was injured during the arrest. He declined to provide additional details.

Police tell the Independent Record (http://bit.ly/GSiVDv) that 29-year-old Herbert Wilton Lay faces a possible charge of assault with a weapon.

McGee says the woman reported that she and Lay got into an argument and that Lay fired a .45-caliber handgun in her direction.

Police responding to the scene say they heard another shot, but couldn't make contact with Lay until his arrest.
