It was a joint effort on Saturday morning as Frenchtown Fire, Missoula Rural Fire and a county road crew worked together to fight a structure fire near Frenchtown.

Frenchtown Fire District spokesman Mel Holtz said the call initially came in at 7:40 on Saturday morning.

“We currently have six Frenchtown Fire apparatus on scene and we did request Missoula Rural Fire to assist with a water tender,” Holtz said. “The homeowners noticed smoke and fire in the attic, and when we arrived on scene there was heavy smoke and fire. The crews were able to knock that down but there was pretty substantial damage up on the second floor of the home.”

Holtz said access to the home required help from Missoula county road crews.

“Every body got out safe, but the roads were pretty treacherous this morning for crews coming in, but Missoula County did help us out with a plow and sand truck up here because it’s a rural area with a lot of snow and it was pretty slick getting up here.”

Holtz said the cause of the fire is under investigation. No one was injured, but there was substantial damage to the upper floor of the home.
