According to Southwestern Montana DNRC Public information Officer Cindy Super, the Stimson fire near Bonner was fully contained yesterday.

"They called it "contained" as of 12:00 noon," said Super. "What contained means is that they do have fire line or black line completely around the fire. They have put a fuel break around the burned area and they are starting to do mop up. Also, they are reasonably certain that the fire will not escape the line."

Despite being fully contained questions remain as to what actually caused Stimson fire. Super says it was likely human caused.

"They've got to rule out lightning of course, they've got to rule out different things, but its a high traffic area and a lot of people go back in there. If anyone has information about how the fire may have started they can call me at 542-4321 and I'll pass their information along to the investigation team."

Southwest Montana will be moving to stage one fire restrictions next week, partly due to the numerous human caused fires that have occurred  throughout the region. By the time the Stimson Fire was contained, it burned through a total of six acres. No injuries have been reported so far and no structures were damaged by the blaze.
