Officials with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game say a recent wolf trapping class was packed with southern Idaho hunters eager to take part in the state's first wolf trapping season.

Regional conservationist Kelton Hatch says that Saturday's class in Jerome was filled to capacity weeks in advance, forcing the department to turn several people away. The class is mandatory for anyone who wants to buy a state wolf trapping license.

Trapping season opened Nov. 15 and closes March 31. It's only allowed in a handful of locations across Idaho.

So far, only one trapper has reported killing a wolf since the season opened. Officials say 147 wolves have been shot and killed by hunters.
