Snow Saturday, Bitter Cold Sunday in Parts of Montana

The National Weather Service has posted a winter storm warning for areas of southern Montana and predicts a return of bitter cold temperatures throughout the state.

The warning area included Red Lodge, Cooke City and Lodge Grass.

Eight to 15 inches of snow could fall in some mountain areas, 6 to 10 inches in adjoining foothills and 1 to 3 inches in the plains west of Billings by the time the storm is done.

A winter weather advisory was in effect Saturday for a large portion of western Montana, including Missoula, Kalispell, Livingston and Butte.

The Montana Department of Transportation reported many slick and snow-covered roads, mainly in western areas of the state Saturday morning.

Temperatures were expected to drop with lows Sunday morning around zero in many areas.
