Missoula Sentinel High School tops the list of high schools in the state with dual enrollment courses.

Dual enrollment courses are those that students complete in high school that also confer college credit. These courses provide students with the chance to experience college-level coursework.

Sentinel principal Tom Blakely said on Thursday, March 6, the dual enrollment courses are not the only opportunities for students to get a head start into college work.

“We have, I think, 187 students enrolled in dual credit classes,” Blakely said. “That’s in addition to our advanced placement offerings in the building. Traditionally, we graduate between 40 and 65 percent of our students with college credit year after year.”

Blakely said the students at Sentinel High School are used to achieving high academic standards.

“It’s become something that’s not just an offering, or just something extra,” Blakely said. “It’s something that our students expect. It’s the carrot they look for in order to challenge themselves in our building.”

Sentinel was by far and away the number one public high school with dual enrollment classes with 187. Other Missoula high schools included Missoula Hellgate with 91, and Missoula Big Sky with 65.
