Montana's two senators Max Baucus and Jon Tester helped to remove a provision in the Defense Authorization bill that would have limited the military's use of Montana-made fuels.

Baucus and Tester sent a letter to Senate leaders urging that a provision in the bill that would have limited the military's ability to purchase American made fuel like Montana camelina, and they co-sponsored an amendment that passed the Senate on Wednesday.

In each of the last two congresses, Baucus and Tester introduced the “Freedom Fuels” bill to expand the military’s ability to contract for American-made alternative fuels.
