The Missoula County Sheriff's Department and over 40 volunteers conducted a search of the rugged terrain outside Lolo Wednesday morning to search for any sign of federal fugitive David Burgert. Missoula County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Jason Johnson says no sign of the man wanted for attempted deliberate homicide was found. Authorities chose this day, because a more exhaustive search was not deemed safe immediately following the incident. A year has gone by, and searchers were able to canvass the area without being put in danger by an escaped fugitive.

Burgert is still wanted on a half-million dollar warrant for Attempted Deliberate Homicide following a long vehicle pursuit and then shooting at deputies as he escaped into the wilderness in June of 2011. Burgert was known as a survivalist and was heavily armed when he disappeared into the rugged wilderness. Johnson requests anyone with information regarding Burgert's whereabouts to contact Crimestoppers for a reward of up to $1,000.
