Roaring Lion Fire 50% Contained – BR Forest Restrictions

The Roaring Lion Fire is now 50 percent contained, according to the Tuesday morning report from Greg Poncin's Type 1 Incident Command Center. The fire is at 8,270 acres and crews are working on the southwest corner of the fire, tying into lines established by the Observation Point fire last month. Evacuation warning areas around the fire have been reduced.

The Bitterroot National Forest has gone to Stage 1 Fire Restrictions to coincide with the Ravalli County fire restrictions enacted by the county commissioners Monday.

Campfires will only be allowed on the Bitterroot National Forest in a designated campground or receation site which contains a Forest-provided fire ring.

Smoking is not allowed outside of vehicles or buildings unless it's in a three-foot diameter cleared area.

Wilderness areas are not included in the restrictions. Fire danger on the Bitterroot National Forest is "Very High," according to Tod McKay of the forest. As of Monday evening, there were 11 human-caused fires and 15 lightning-caused fires on the forest.
