Residents Concerned About Health Risks From Oil Spill

People living near an oil spill in Montana’s Yellowstone River are concerned about health risks and damage the crude might be causing.

At an Environmental Protection Agency meeting Wednesday night, roughly 150 people showed up with questions about that and also about how long it will take to clean up the oil.

A pipeline running beneath the river ruptured late Friday night and an estimated 42,000 gallons of crude spilled into the water before the leak was stopped.

Billings area resident George Nilson says the fumes from oil have been overwhelming. He says that after five days the only way he can breathe is to open all the windows.

An EPA representative at the meeting says the agency may to indoor air sampling after hearing several such complaints.
