World War II veteran Ray Swindler was awarded the French Legion of Honor medal at a ceremony on Memorial Day.

The medal was pinned on Swindler by Honorary Consul of France to Montana Laurence Markarian in a presentation preceding the annual Corvallis Memorial Day Parade.

Swindler, who was part of the D-Day operation at Normandy in 1944, said he was accepting the award for all those did not survive the war.

Markarian was assisted by Doug Mason of American Legion Post 91, which organizes the parade annually. Here's a video of a portion of the ceremony.
