The University of Montana will begin filling up with new students today and University of Montana President Royce Engstrom will be volunteering along with many others to help new students get their luggage to their rooms.

“In the total between Wednesday and Saturday we have about 300 people volunteering  to help in some fashion with moving people in,” University of Montana Residence Life Associate Director of Operations Melissa Neidigh explained. “All those people will be moving boxes in or moving furniture. Some of them are working within the offices to help get people checked in and get them situated, so theres a fair number of people helping.”

Neidigh says she doesn't have a count yet for how many new students will be moving into the dorms but they can begin doing so soon.

“The residents and their families can move into their new home from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.,” said Neidigh. “We also have an activity tonight that those students can start meeting new friends. So theres going to be something called speed friending that takes place in the University Center.”

Neidigh said "Speed Friending" is a bit like speed dating, where participants meet with another person for a few minutes and ask questions before a whistle bowls and its time to meet someone else.
