If you see smoke within the next day or two, have no fear! Prescribed burns are in the plans for fire crews near Missoula.

The Missoula Ranger District plans to ignite an understory prescribed burn two miles west of Clinton, south of the Clark Fork River.

Boyd Hartwig with the Lolo National Forest said the purpose of the prescribed burn is to reduce surface fuel concentrations and promote ponderosa pine and western larch regeneration.

There may be short termed limited public access through these areas in the next few days. Hartwig said "prescribed burn road signs" will be posted on forest road 2140 and 4241 during burning operations.
