Law enforcement officers in Butte are searching for a California man they suspect shot a Butte man in the leg during an argument.

Butte-Silver Bow Undersheriff George Skuletich says officers received a report of possible shots fired at 12:15 a.m. Friday. The 38-year-old victim had a gunshot wound to his calf and drove himself to the hospital.

Sheriff Ed Lester says prosecutors obtained a warrant authorizing the arrest of 37-year-old Luke Andrew Lapinski of Buellton, California, on a charge of felony aggravated assault. It asks that bail be set at $100,000.

Lester said Lapinski was in a silver 2013 Chevrolet Corvette and arguing with the victim when Lapinski fired two shots from a handgun. One shot hit the Butte man in the leg.

Lester says the victim's injuries are not life-threatening. He declined to comment on a possible motive.
