A jailed Kalispell man police say tried to hire his cellmate to kill his ex-wife and a victim advocate has been charged with felony solicitation of deliberate homicide.

The Daily Inter Lake reports that authorities recorded 38-year-old Matthew Heuer proposing the deal while in the Flathead County Detention Center.

Heuer had been sentenced two weeks earlier to five years in prison for felony criminal endangerment after starting an argument with another man and firing a shot from a revolver at the ground between the two.

Heuer's cellmate told authorities about the proposed hit. Authorities received a warrant and say they recorded a conversation where Heuer spelled out how the cellmate should kill Heuer's ex-wife.

Police say Heuer offered payment in the form of a pickup truck.
