With predictions of just a 30 percent chance of showers and a high of 55, it sounds like a good day for a road trip to Butte for Montana Grizzly football.

The annual event is held outside of Missoula every other year, and it's Butte's turn to check out the Griz. If you're thinking about going, there's lots of fun and socializing planned in addition to the game.

Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m. this Saturday, April 22, at Butte's Naranche Stadium.  A Griz gathering with head coach Bob Stitt and members of his staff as well as UM Athletic Department staff will be Friday evening starting at 6:00 at the McQueen Club. Everyone's invited. No host bar available.

At 11:00 a.m. Saturday, a tailgate party hosted by the Grizzly Scholarship Association will take place near the northwest entrance of the stadium. Food vendors with Butte specialties will be on hand and lots of beverage choices will be available as well. And fans at the game will have exclusive first access to free 2017 Griz football schedule posters at the GSA tailgate site.

The scrimmage will consist of four 10-minute quarters and will try to simulate real-game action. Projected first-string offense and defense will face each other. Projected backups will do the same.

Tickets are only $5 for adults, $3 for kids, available in advance at the Adams Center on the UM campus or at the gate the day of the scrimmage. Proceeds benefit the Grizzly Scholarship Association. So, if you're looking to get a little Griz football fix in with four-plus months to go before the season opener, it might definitely be worth a road trip to hold you over. It sounds like the team and coaches are taking the game very seriously and it's surrounded by lots of fun activities. Our thanks to UM Sports Information Director Eric Taber for the outline of events.

Go Griz!
