A Pennsylvania congressman's press secretary has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor weapons charges, acknowledging that he accidentally carried an unloaded gun and ammunition into a federal office building in Washington.

Ryan Shucard entered the plea Wednesday in D.C. Superior Court.

Shucard, the press secretary for Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Marino, was placed on unpaid leave after the incident July 18 and said in court that he doesn't know whether he will be able to have his job back.

A prosecutor said the weapon and ammunition were discovered during a security screening when Shucard attempted to enter the Cannon House Office Building, where Marino has his office.

A judge sentenced Shucard to 30 days in jail but suspended the sentence.

Marino represents northeastern Pennsylvania.
