This Wednesday there will be a ceremony honoring Pearl Harbor Day and the retirement of hundreds of American and Montana flags at 7:oo p.m at the Rose Memorial Garden Park in Missoula.

The service will include a brief history of the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and the meaning of the American flag. Following the service, veterans and other members of the audience will assist with the lowering of tattered, torn and faded flags into the flames for proper flag retirement. Each flag will be saluted by veterans and the audience. Dress warmly and be prepared to stand in cold weather for about one hour. The service is free. At the end of the flag retirement service, “taps” will be played by a member of the VFW Post 209 Honor Guard or the American Legion Post 27 Color Guard.
