Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetic Educator

Coordinator of the Diabetes and Heart Disease Prevention Program at Community Medical Center.

  • Nearly 30 million Americans are living with diabetes and 86 million Americans have pre diabetes which is defined as a fasting blood sugar of 100 – 125.  More than 1 in 3 adults have pre diabetes and are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes, a serious health condition that can lead to heart attack and stroke.  Surprisingly, nearly 90% of people with pre diabetes don’t know they have it.
  • Community Medical Center is part of the program that started out as a research study with the National Institutes of Health and Centers for Disease Control.  The results showed that making certain lifestyle changes and continuing them over time can prevent type 2 diabetes in people who are at risk.
  • The program’s goals for all participants include a 7% weight loss and achieving 150 minutes of aerobic exercise per week during the program.
  • The eligibility criteria for enrollment in the Diabetes Prevention Program is offered two times a year with the next sessions beginning September 19, 2016 and then again in January, 2017
