Final 2 ConocoPhillips Megaloads In Billings

The final two huge shipments of equipment for the ConocoPhillips refinery have arrived in Billings despite several court cases, some protests and weather delays.

The two halves of the second coker drum stopped along Montana Highway 3 early Wednesday and were scheduled to be moved to the refinery overnight.

Officer Denies Motion To Rehear Megaloads Case

A hearing officer has rejected a motion to reconsider his decision in favor of a plan by ExxonMobil to haul massive loads of equipment along a scenic highway in north central Idaho.

Former state judge Duff McKee rejected the request Monday filed by critics of Exxon's plans to ship the oversized loads along U.S. Highway 12.

Judge Stops Transport Of Megaloads Through Western Montana

A judge has upheld a request by Missoula County and three conservation groups to stop Imperial Oil/Exxon Mobil from transporting massive oilfield equipment modules through western Montana.

District Judge Ray Dayton of Anaconda issued his decision late Tuesday afternoon to partially grant a preliminary injunction against the Montana Department of Transportation and Imperial Oil/Exxon Mobil.

Protesters Occupy Governor’s Office In Helena..An On Location Report

Protesters from Earth First and Northern Rockies Rising Tide are currently occupying part of Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer’s office inside the Capitol Building in Helena. The group has demanded that Governor Schweitzer publicly declare his opposition to the Keystone XL pipeline, tar sands oil and the megaloads coming through Montana. I spoke with Max Grainger, a member of the protest group just after noon today about the purpose of this act of civil disobedience.

Foes Appeal Hearing Officer Ruling On Megaloads

A group of north Idaho residents has asked a hearing judge to reconsider his ruling in favor of ExxonMobil's plans to haul dozens of oversized loads of equipment along U.S. Highway 12.

Last month, hearing officer Duff McKee handed the oil company a victory when he recommended that the Idaho Transportation Department issue travel permits for the shipments.

Megaloads Hearing

A Missoula City-County Health Department official says roadside turnouts needed to haul huge loads of oilfield equipment through northwestern Montana threaten the watershed.

The Missoulian reports environmental health supervisor Peter Nielsen testified Monday at a hearing in which the county and three conservation groups are seeking a preliminary injunction against a plan to move more than 200 loads of equipment through Montana.

Commissioners File Suit To Halt Megaloads

The Missoula County Commissioners voted unanimously this morning to force a halt to the upcoming megaload shipments from Lewiston, Idaho through Highways 12 and 200, because of insufficient analysis of the effects of the shipments on area roads and sensitive habitat. I spoke with Commissioner Jean Curtiss about the decision to file suit against Jim Lynch, director of Montana’s Department of Transportation.
