When a Helena accounting firm finished its examination of the Ravalli County treasurer's office earlier this year, it found over $951,000 in cash and checks that now-suspended treasurer Valerie Stamey hadn't deposited into county accounts.

After Anderson Zurmuehlen reconciled the county bank accounts in May, it found the county was short just over $5,400.

On Tuesday, county officials found the missing funds. County Attorney Bill Fulbright says five county officials, including two sheriff's deputies, searched Stamey's former office and discovered checks and currency totaling $5,367 lodged between her desk and the wall.

Fulbright says no evidence of criminal conduct was found during Tuesday's search.

Stamey was appointed to the post last September and suspended with pay in January. County commissioners suspended her without pay on June 25 after she refused to resign.
