What can a clinic in a tiny Montana town do to help a  hospital in the fourth largest city in the United States?

The answer is Operation ‘Scrubs With Love’.

Mitzi Francis, Executive Assistant at the Mineral Community Hospital in Superior, received word from a community member that nurses at one of Houston’s largest hospitals were in dire need of clean scrubs while they deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

“She was telling her mom that  she and other medical professionals were in desperate need of scrubs, because the ones that they have been wearing have been contaminated by the flood waters,” Francis began. “This community member said ‘I know someone at the hospital. Let me make some calls’. So, she told me what the situation was and we’ve all seen the pictures of the flooding and I thought this could be something that this little hospital in Superior could get behind.”

Did they ever.

“I sent an email to all our employees, and when I came in on Monday morning there were huge bags of scrubs,” she said. “I’ve called this project Operation ‘Scrubs With Love to Houston’. I’ve also created a little card that goes on all the tops and pants with our logo and our address, so the people in Houston know where they came from. I also attached a card that reads ‘Sent with love and best wishes from Mineral Community Hospital in Superior Montana. Our thoughts and prayers are with you’.”

Francis said that was just the beginning of the outpouring of support for the nurses in Houston.

“I put the display with one table out in the lobby and now I have two tables full of scrubs,” she said. “We have 120 tops and pants that have been donated by our 60 employees. It’s just been amazing that this little hospital really wants to help, and they sure did with this little project.”

Francis responded favorably to the idea that other hospitals in Montana might want to join the effort. Her number in Superior is 822-3713.

Scrubs can be sent to Rebecca Perry, 16224 Lone Star Ranch Drive, Conrow, TX  77302.  She will make sure they get distributed throughout the Houston area.

Come on Montana, let’s get it done!
