MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — Authorities say that a man died in a one-vehicle crash after he and the driver left a Frenchtown fireworks stand they tried to break into.

Missoula police did not identify the 22-year-old man who died Sunday night after being pinned beneath the vehicle. The 21-year-old driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries after being thrown from the vehicle.

Detective Jason Johnson tells the Missoulian that Missoula County sheriff's deputies were headed to the fireworks stand to investigate a report of criminal mischief.

Besides trying to break into the fireworks stand, authorities say the men also tipped over an outhouse.

The men left the scene in the vehicle and crashed. Neither was wearing a seatbelt.

Montana Highway Patrol dispatchers say speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
